Drop, Cover, Hold On!

On October 18, 2018 at 10:18 a.m., 24-Hour Medical Staffing Services (24HRMED), along with millions across the state, participated in the Great California ShakeOut. Not only is the Great California ShakeOut an annual drill to inform, prepare, respond, and recover in the event of a disaster, but also for communities, schools, and organizations to review and update their emergency preparedness. Also, California has a higher risk of earthquakes due to the infamous San Andreas Fault line.  24HRMED’s Emergency Evacuation Plan details procedures in the event of a fire, earthquake, explosion, disaster, or medical emergencies. The purpose of the Emergency Evacuation Plan is to ensure that, during an emergency, 24HRMED employees exit quickly and safely.

To Reduce your Chance of Injury, Remember to Drop, Cover, and Hold On when an Earthquake hits

earthquake-clipart-duck-and-cover-20

  • Under shelter: hold on to it with one hand; be ready to move with your shelter if it shifts
  • No shelter: hold on to your head and neck with both arms and hands.
DROP where you are, onto your hands and knees. This position protects you from being knocked down and also allows you to stay low and crawl to shelter if nearby.
COVER your head and neck with one arm and hand

  • If a sturdy table or desk is nearby, crawl underneath it for shelter
  • If no shelter is nearby, crawl next to an interior wall (away from windows)
  • Stay on your knees; bend over to protect vital organs
HOLD ON until shaking stops

Employees took time out of their day to help test 24HRMED emergency procedures in order to be prepared and alert as we can be. The Health and Safety Procedure is given to all new hires, and every year to current employees in October. Thank you to all our team members who participated.

Our history:

This cause is deeply rooted in 24-Hour Medical Staffing Services’ history as our founder and CEO Linda Stone is a Breast Cancer Survivor. During her lengthy recuperation, and her personal experience as a breast cancer survivor, she conceived the idea to create a business that focuses on the patient, the healthcare professional, and the hospital. And as a result, she founded 24-Hour Medical Staffing Services in 2000.

Flu Season: Get Vaccinated, It’s Worth a Shot

cindy k Blog, Healthcare, Safety, & Wellness

It’s flu season!

In the United States, “flu season” is common during the fall and winter months. Influenza, commonly known as flu, is “a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death.” To prevent the flu, it’s important to get a flu vaccine yearly.

Preventing the Flu

Get vaccinated
Stay at home when you are sick
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
Cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hand
Put used tissues in the waste basket
Wash your hands frequently

Is it the flu or a cold?

Flu symptoms is different from the common cold, and it’s important to know the difference between the two. People who have the flu or cold will have some or all these symptoms.

24HRMED Annual Team Building Event

cindy k 24HRMED Events & Happenings, Blog

IMG_2610On August 17, 2018, 24HRMED corporate team members headed to Ronald Reagan Park in Diamond Bar for their annual team building event. Although it was hot out, team members were ready to face off one another in multiple team building activities and games. Corporate members were divided into four teams through a random draw. Games included two ice breakers, and a relay. Each team members will work together to solve trivia/riddles, complete a short race, and go head to head in a very competitive game of Jenga. The team with the most points by the end of the games wins. During lunch, our Human Resources manager counted the scores and team The Hammer came out victorious with the highest score!

Congrats Team!!

After the relay and lunch, many team members bonded by playing basketball, tennis, and volleyball at the nearby courts. 24HRMED values a strong and healthy company culture by building communication and teamwork skills among our employees.

Allergy Season 2018

cindy k Blog, Healthcare, Safety, & Wellness

Allergy SeasonIt’s allergy season! Allergy season starts in spring and lasts through early summer.

What is an allergy?

Allergy occurs when your immune system reacts to harmless substances in the environment. Allergies exist in many different forms such as food allergies, skin allergies, house dust mites, pet hair, and many more. But, the most common are seasonal allergies – mold and tree, grass, and weed pollen.

Symptoms

Common symptoms are sneezing, itching, watery eyes, runny nose, and nasal congestion. For some who might have an underlying asthma, they can experience shortness of breath, coughing, and chest tightness.

How can you prevent allergies or minimize exposure?

Keep windows and doors shut at home and in your car.

Avoid pollen by checking weather reports for pollen count. Levels are usually highest in the morning.

Take a shower and change your clothes after working or spending time outdoors.

Dust mites are everywhere especially on mattresses, pillows, and soft bedding. Wash sheets and pillowcases at least once a week. Wash comforters and bedspreads every one to two months.

There is medication that you can find at your local drug store that can help reduce or control your symptoms.
