cindy k 24HRMED in the Community, Blog

For the month of October, 24-Hour Medical Staffing Services (24HRMED) team members wore pink on Fridays to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is an annual campaign to increase awareness for the disease. So, for every team member who wore pink on Fridays, 24HRMED would donate $5 towards the cause.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2017

24HRMED CEO & President Linda Stone is breast cancer survivor who was diagnosed in 1997. She has now been cancer free for 17 years. During lengthy recuperation, and her personal experience as a breast cancer survivor, she conceived the idea to create a business that focuses on the patient and the hospital. As a result, 24-Hour Medical Staffing Services was founded in 2000.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2017

Knowing that this cause is deeply rooted in the history of 24HRMED, employees and the community came together to raise a total of $1,371 – all donations were given the City of Hope. City of Hope is a world leader in research and treatment for cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening diseases.

Thank you everyone who supported, donated, and participated in City of Hope Walk for Hope!

Great California ShakeOut 2017

cindy k Blog, Healthcare, Safety, & Wellness

24-Hour Medical Staffing Services (24HRMED), along with millions across the state, participated in the Great California ShakeOut.

“Millions of people worldwide will practice how to Drop, Cover, and Hold On at 10:19 a.m. on October 19 during Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills, which began in California in 2008.”

Not only is the Great California ShakeOut an annual drill to inform, prepare, respond, and recover in the event of a disaster, but also for communities, schools, and organizations to review and update their emergency preparedness. Also, California has a higher risk of earthquakes due to the infamous San Andreas Fault line. Great California Shakeout

24HRMED’s Emergency Evacuation Plan details procedures in the event of a fire, earthquake, explosion, disaster, or medical emergencies.

The purpose of the Emergency Evacuation Plan is to ensure that, during an emergency, 24HRMED employees exit quickly and safely.24HRMED Great California Shakeout 2017

In MOST situations, you will reduce your chance of injury if you:

DROP where you are, onto your hands and knees. This position protects you from being knocked down and also allows you to stay low and crawl to shelter if nearby.
COVER your head and neck with one arm and hand

  • If a sturdy table or desk is nearby, crawl underneath it for shelter
  • If no shelter is nearby, crawl next to an interior wall (away from windows)
  • Stay on your knees; bend over to protect vital organs
HOLD ON until shaking stops

  • Under shelter: hold on to it with one hand; be ready to move with your shelter if it shifts
  • No shelter: hold on to your head and neck with both arms and hands.

Visit www.shakeout.org/california/dropcoverholdon/ for more information.

After the drill and evacuating from the building, our safety coordinators went over safety procedures with employees participating in answering safety questions.

24HRMED Great California Shakeout 2017

Employees took time out of their day to help test 24HRMED emergency procedures. We know there have been many recent tragedies, and we need to be as prepared and alert as we can be. The Health and Safety Procedure is given to all new hires, and every year to current employees in October. Thank you to all our employees who participated.

Healthy Habits to Prevent the Flu

cindy k Blog, Healthcare, Safety, & Wellness

Blog banner - Healthy Habits to prevent the flu

The beginning of fall marks the beginning of flu season. While the flu can be year-round, it is most common during fall and winter, and can last through February or as late as May. Here are some healthy habits to protect yourself from the flu during flu season.

Avoid Close Contact with People Who Are Sick

Try to avoid close contact with those who are sick. If you are sick, keep your distance to prevent others around you from getting sick too.

Stay Home If You Are Sick

Rest up! If you’re sick, stay at home. Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep. Not getting enough sleep will lower your immune system.

Cover Your Mouth and Nose

Cover your cough and sneezes with a tissue. If you cough or sneeze into your hands, clean your hands with soap and water. If you’re traveling, or going out with friends and family, keep some hand sanitizers with you.

Clean Your Hands

Wash your hands frequently with soup and water for 20 seconds.

Sanitize Your Office Space

Keep frequently touched surfaces such as telephones, keyboards, etc. clean. Try not to use a co-worker’s phone or desk if they’re sick.

Stay in Shape

Make sure you’re exercising 20-30 minute a day. Be sure to relax, rest, and eat a healthy meal. Drink a lot of water to stay hydrated.

Get Vaccinated

Getting vaccinated is an important way to prevent the spread of the flu. Even healthy people can get sick.
